What's included
- An exam of the gap and the teeth beside it
- A talk about bridges and implants
- A temporary bridge while yours is made
- Your custom bridge, checked for fit and bite
Fixed or removable?
A fixed bridge is attached to the teeth beside the gap and only comes off with dental tools. A removable one clips on and comes out to clean. Fixed bridges are the most stable.
Caring for your bridge
Brush and floss every day, using floss threaders to clean under the false tooth. Keep up with your cleanings.

Fill the gap, protect your bite
After a tooth is lost, the teeth around it can shift and your bite can change. A bridge fills the space so you can chew, speak and smile with confidence.
Benefits
A complete smile, without the gap.
Chew normally
A bridge brings back a full row of teeth for biting and chewing.
Stops shifting
Filling the gap keeps your other teeth in line.
Protects your bite
A balanced bite helps avoid jaw strain and TMJ trouble.
Looks natural
Tooth-colored porcelain blends in with your smile.
Supports your face
A full set of teeth helps keep cheeks and lips from sinking in.

Bridges made to look and work like teeth

Every bridge is made for one mouth.
Dr. Steven Haywood, DDS, has more than 35 years of experience, with prosthodontic training during a US Air Force residency. We work in all-ceramic and tooth-colored bridges and talk through implants too, so you can choose.
Porcelain
High-grade porcelain, or porcelain fused to zirconia or gold.
Fixed bridge
Attached to the teeth beside the gap for the most stability.
Two visits
One to prepare the teeth, one to fit the finished bridge.
Implant option
An implant is often the better choice. You hear both before you decide.

How it works
Talk through your options
Dr. Haywood checks the gap and the teeth beside it, and compares a bridge with an implant.
Prepare the anchor teeth
The teeth beside the gap are shaped and scanned. A temporary bridge holds them in place.
Fit your bridge
At the second visit, your bridge is checked for fit and a balanced bite, then placed.
Smile Guide
Plain answers about bridges and missing teeth.
Frequently asked questions
What is a dental bridge?
Two crowns and a false tooth, called a pontic. The crowns fit over the teeth beside the gap, and the pontic fills the space.
Is a bridge or an implant better?
In most cases an implant is the better choice. It replaces the root as well as the tooth and helps protect the jawbone. Dr. Haywood will talk through both. See single tooth implants.
How many visits does a bridge take?
Usually two. The first prepares the teeth and places a temporary bridge. The second fits your permanent bridge and checks your bite.
How do I care for a temporary bridge?
Avoid sticky foods like caramel and gum, and keep it on even if you feel fine, or your teeth can move. If it comes off, call us. Read the post-op instructions.
How does payment work?
We are out of network with all insurers. You pay at the visit and we file the claim for you. Payment plans are available through CareCredit and Cherry.
