Is an implant right for me?
If you have lost a tooth to decay, injury, gum disease or a failed root canal, an implant is usually the best way to replace it. A 3D scan shows whether there is enough bone; if not, bone grafting can rebuild it first.
Healing and aftercare
The implant needs at least 6 to 8 weeks to bond with your jawbone before the crown goes on. Often the implant can be placed at the same visit the tooth comes out. Care for it like a natural tooth, with regular cleanings.

A tooth you'll forget is an implant
An implant replaces the whole tooth, root and all, and is just the size of the tooth it replaces. It can't decay, and it doesn't rely on the teeth beside it.
Benefits
One tooth, replaced the right way.
Looks like your own tooth
A custom porcelain crown, shaped and shaded to match the teeth around it.
Leaves your other teeth alone
Unlike a bridge, nothing is shaped down on the healthy teeth on either side.
Protects the jawbone
The implant replaces the root, which helps keep the bone from shrinking where the tooth was lost.
Can't get a cavity
Implants don't decay, and they seem far less affected by gum disease than natural teeth.
Built to last
With good planning and care, an implant can last a lifetime.

Planned on a 3D scan, placed with a guide

Every implant starts with a careful look at your bone.
Dr. Steven Haywood, DDS, ICOI Fellow, reviews a 3D CBCT scan to check the quality and amount of bone, then can design a guide that places the implant exactly where the plan says.
3D CBCT scan
A dental CT scan shows whether there is enough bone, and where the implant should go.
Surgical guide
For guided implant surgery, a custom guide places the implant exactly as planned.
Sized for you
Implants come in specific lengths and widths, chosen for your mouth and the tooth replaced.
Titanium or ceramic
Titanium is the most common and proven; ceramic (zirconia) implants are available for patients who want a metal-free option.

Frequently asked questions
Can a single tooth implant be done in one day?
The implant itself is placed in one visit, often the same day the tooth comes out. The whole process takes several months, because the implant needs time to bond with the bone before the crown goes on.
Is getting an implant painful?
The area is fully numbed, and sedation is available. Once the numbness wears off, most people notice only mild soreness.
How long does placing the implant take?
Placing a single implant takes about 30 minutes to an hour. That is one step in a process that can take several months, depending on your mouth.
How long do implants last?
Implants may last a lifetime with good planning and care. They fail in about 2% of cases, usually early while healing, and are somewhat less successful in smokers.
Can front teeth be replaced with an implant?
Yes. Implants are one of the best ways to replace a missing front tooth.
What does a single tooth implant cost?
There's no such thing as a cheap dental implant, and ceramic implants cost more than titanium. Even so, a bridge in our office usually costs more than most implant work. You get an exact plan and cost at your consultation, and monthly payment plans are available through CareCredit and Cherry.
