THE PARTS OF AN IMPLANT
DENTAL IMPLANTS SHREWSBURY, PAWhen a tooth is lost due to decay, trauma, periodontal disease, or a bad root canal, a dental implant allow you to replace that tooth and restore proper function and appearance
The placement of a single tooth implant is preceded by a careful radiographic review to establish if there is enough bone to support an implant. C.B.C.T.s are dental cat scans that can be used to help diagnose problems with either the quality or quantity of supporting bone. We can use the C.B.C.T. to actually design guides for “guided implant surgery” where we design the exact placement of the new implant root. A single tooth implant typically consists of three parts:
- The implant post that replaces the tooth root
- The implant abutment that supports the new crown
- The crown that is placed on the implant abutment

CERAMIC IMPLANTS NEAR SHREWSBURY, PACeramic dental implants and Zirconia dental implants are possible and are essentially the holistic dental implants of choice

We use implants of specific lengths and widths that are sized for your particular need. Implant care is very specialized.

WHAT ARE OTHER OPTIONS FOR TOOTH REPLACEMENT?Teeth are not forever unfortunately, but Dr. Haywood is a master implantologist and can get you a tooth replacement in Shrewsbury, PA in no time at all
A missing tooth can definitely change the appearance of your smile. Whether a missing tooth is the result of injury, severe tooth decay, gum disease (periodontitis) or a genetic condition, a missing tooth can cause a myriad of problems. Regardless of the way a tooth is lost, it can negatively impact the alignment of your teeth over time and cause a number of issues down the road if it isn’t fixed and replaced. Even the loss of a single tooth can have a negative impact on your oral health and confidence. A missing tooth or teeth can also affect your speech, ability to chew your food, the integrity of your jawbone, and cause the slow shifting of your teeth into some of the empty spaces. Luckily, there are a number of fantastic options available to replace a missing tooth or teeth to help restore your beautiful smile.
MISSING ONE OR MORE TEETH?
RESTORE YOUR SMILE WITH A SINGLE TOOTH IMPLANT!A dental implant replaces the entire tooth without affecting the adjacent teeth and is just the size of the tooth it is replacing. It requires surgery to replace the tooth but can often be an immediate implant placement at the time of the extraction. Implants require a healing time of at least 6-8 weeks following the surgery.
REMOVABLE PARTIAL DENTURE
A removable partial denture comes in and out, has clips and clasps that are usually metal, and some part of the partial denture will cover the inside of the mouth or palate. They are bulkier than either an implant replacement or bridges and may affect the way you perceive foods and may affect your sense of taste as well. Most people reject the notion of any dental appliance that is removable. This option costs the least.
FIXED BRIDGES
A fixed bridge replaces the missing tooth by being attached to the adjacent one or more existing teeth. Dental bridges are effective and relatively long-lasting. The ADA statistics show that a bridge has an average lifespan of 11 years. The advantages of dental bridges include the lack of surgery and some theoretical cost savings if the supporting teeth need crowns for strength on them already. Dental bridges take several weeks to manufacture and temporary bridges are often made during this time. They are harder to clean than the other options and fail primarily due to decay where they are hard to clean. Bridges in our offices are more expensive than most implant work.
HOW LONG DO DENTAL IMPLANTS LAST?
TOOTH IMPLANTS SHREWSBURY, PASingle tooth implants are the clear preference over every other tooth-replacement option and Dr. Haywood is an expert implant dentist and has helped thousands of patients with dental implant care over the past 25+ years
The current thinking on this question is that implants may last a lifetime. Implants seem to be far less affected by gum disease than most teeth. Implants will not decay and seem to be about 10% less successful in smokers. Implants can and do fail at about a 2% rate. Implants fail usually early in their healing period. With proper planning, placement, and maintenance by a qualified implant dentist, single tooth implants can be a potential lifetime solution. Our office is equally capable of delivering the quality dental implant care you deserve!
OTHER SPECIALTY DENTAL SERVICES
ALL-ON-FOUR, SNAP-ON TEETH, AND FRONT TOOTH IMPLANTS IN SHREWSBURY, PAWith all on four implants, a dental professional will surgically insert four titanium posts into your jawbone as the main anchors, so there is no need to replace each lost tooth individually. Instead, they can then attach a permanent denture to those four areas for a seamless look across your entire mouth.
Snap-on implant teeth are full arch dentures or partial dentures that rest partially on the gums and are connected to snaps on implants. These are vastly different from traditional dentures and partials because they just hold so much better. This is the most affordable style of implant teeth we can offer.
A front tooth implant is more difficult to complete successfully because everyone can see it. It is literally right underneath your nose! Front teeth implants have become somewhat of a specialty for us because they combine the demands of excellent oral surgery and exceptional cosmetic dentistry. Front tooth implants in the smile zone are frequently more complex and often more costly.
