THE PORCELAIN VENEERS PROCESS

The entire porcelain veneers process is completed in three treatment appointments. Here’s an overview of what you can look forward to after our thorough dental exam, diagnostic photographs, and x-rays confirm you are a good candidate for this cosmetic dental procedure. Periodontal diseases or decay should be addressed either before or as part of this elective cosmetic treatment. We provided these services for you as well.

FIRST APPOINTMENT

At your first appointment, we will thoroughly numb the area we are working in if needed and remove a small amount of the damaged tooth surface and all existing old fillings and decay that we may find. We strive to shape the tooth as little as possible and preserve vital tooth structure. At the same time we must not leave any damage under our new porcelain veneer. If the tooth has damage under the surface, that will be repaired during the process as well. We will eventually make impressions of your teeth preparations, take even more photos, take a registration of your bite, and then make you your first set of “temporary veneers” that are customized to your personal specifications of color and shape. Our team will then send all this data to our master ceramist CK Kim in New York. During the next few weeks we can make changes to your temporary veneers and finalize your choices for color and shape. Your veneers will be first customized by us and then finally made by hand in CK’s dental lab studio. The whole process typically takes from 10 days to four weeks.

SECOND APPOINTMENT

Once your customized porcelain veneers are ready, you’ll return to our Shrewsbury office for your second appointment to have a try-in or have them finally bonded in if they are excellent. Our cosmetic dentistry experts will remove the temporary veneers and clean the surfaces of the teeth we are working on. Many will choose to be numb for the process because the teeth can feel cold from water and air as they are installed. We try-in the veneers that have been made and we will get your approval that they meet your expectations. Once you’re satisfied with the shape, color, and how they make you look amazing, we will use a bonding agent and specialized adhesive cements to adhere the veneers to your teeth. There is quite a bit of final polishing and fitting to make them feel and act as your own. We take our time to make sure everything fits and looks exceptionally beautiful. You are now ready to take your new smile out of the office and enjoy them just like your own teeth.

THIRD APPOINTMENT

A third and important appointment is our finishing and polishing step: we invite all of our cosmetic patients to return to the office after a few weeks for final photos, detailing, bite adjustments, and polishing for the perfect fit and finish. We ask that our clients make time for this appointment so that your veneers are absolutely the best they can be. We will usually give you your protective dental guard at this time as well.

I only asked that he would make sure my teeth looked natural. That was one of the main reasons I chose him to do my work. I could tell from the pictures of previous work he had done and from the computer imaging that was done of my own teeth, that he treated each case like a work of art and each was unique. So it CAN be an advantage for some patients.

Do you brush your teeth with veneers?

You can care for your porcelain veneers by brushing and flossing your teeth daily. Proper oral hygiene is essential, even with veneers.
